TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE SON

Oh, Marvin… so many of us cried.

A world of brothers, sisters, mothers - for just one man who died.

What was going on? What was going on?

The total eclipse of the son.

Not the moon, but lunacy…

Daddy with a gun

Caused the total eclipse of the son.

We heard it through the grapevine that you were no longer ours

Your light obscured, forever, by the blackness that devours

A man's mind and actions to the point of hate:

There was no mercy, mercy, Marvin, in the darkness of your fate.

The fears that shadowed innocence were all too self-revealing,

Ensuring you would never find mental, or sexual, healing.

Oh, my old friend Marvin, you freed a lot of people

But couldn't free yourself from Daddy, fallen from his steeple.

Oh, Marvin… so many of us cried.

A world of brothers, sisters, mothers - for just one man who died.

What was going on? What was going on?

The total eclipse of the son.

Not the moon, but lunacy…

Daddy with a gun

Caused the total eclipse of the son.

Your Daddy could never love you, however hard you’d try -

You climbed so many mountains, that one was much too high.

When you tried to get it on, still you couldn't get it right

Till Daddy's demons clamoured for the extinguishing of your light.

Oh, Marvin… so many of us cried.

A world of brothers, sisters, mothers - for just one man who died.

What was going on? What was going on?

The total eclipse of the son.

Not the moon, but lunacy…

Daddy with a gun

Caused the total eclipse of the son.
